Dunkirk, the Epicentre of an Unprecedented Investment
Dunkirk Positions Itself as a National Leader in Artificial Intelligence Technologies
On the eve of the Choose France Summit, Japanese group SoftBank announced a major investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure in France, including the construction of a data center and a manufacturing facility for data center modules in the Dunkirk area.
A total of €45 billion has been allocated to the Hauts-de-France region, with between €30 billion and €35 billion earmarked for Dunkirk and its port area. This investment makes the project one of the largest ever undertaken in the region.
Project Details
The project includes the construction of a 1.3-gigawatt data center within the Port of Dunkirk, as well as a manufacturing facility for data center modules.
The data center and production facility, which are expected to become operational by 2030, will create an additional 500 jobs. These infrastructures are designed to support the large-scale development of artificial intelligence by meeting the growing demand for computing power.
With this investment, Dunkirk is positioning itself as a strategic European hub for artificial intelligence technologies, attracting industrial and energy investments on an unprecedented scale.
The project is part of a broader industrial development strategy for the region, which is already undergoing several major transformations, particularly in the fields of energy, battery production, and low-carbon technologies.
