McCain chooses Dunkirk port

Excellent news for Dunkirk! McCain, the Canadian leader in frozen fries which has two industrial facilities in the Pas-de-Calais at Harnes and Béthune, has just chosen the port of Dunkirk for its shipments to the Middle East, to the detriment of the Belgian port of Antwerp. This choice is the culmination of six months of work between McCain, local officials, Dunkerque-Port and the farming community, and will reduce transit times for the firm by two days (200 km less road transfer by container), with corresponding savings in customs duties. Following a period of full-scale tests, McCain will be shipping between 400 and 500 refrigerated containers a year from Dunkirk. As a second phase, the firm is now thinking about developing services to South America and the Caribbean, also from Dunkirk. Note that nearly 850 regional producers supply 700,000 tonnes of potatoes to McCain every year.
