GETTING AROUND DUNKIRK AND THE SURROUNDING AREA
FREE BUS
For 5 years now, the Greater Dunkirk Urban Council has been one of the pioneering regions to provide a bus network free of charge! The network, called DK’Bus, has plenty of services running on a regular timetable to get you around Dunkirk with ease from one end of the area to the other and even to La Panne in Belgium, including:
- 5 high service level Chrono lines that make sure you travel much faster than you would by car;
- Noctibus night bus for night time travel;
- Taxibuses costing 2 euros for night time travel.
DK’Bus is the best option for those who wish to reduce their carbon footprint while exploring the region or simply save some money by leaving their car in the garage every day.
BICYCLE
The region is 100% cyclist friendly.
- More than 237 km of cycle lanes so you can travel around the region safely.
- 2,600 parking spaces for bicycles at 380 locations, including 6 secure bicycle parks to help keep your home clutter-free.
- Help to buy or lend a bike has been arranged so that inhabitants can equip themselves for their commute in the Hauts de Flandre Greater District Council and the Greater Dunkirk Urban Council.
- Students at the University Littoral Côte d’Opale (ULCO) can also sign up to the Recyclo borrow-a-bike scheme to get to class!
- Various shops offer short-term hire for visitors and/or repair services to restore a faulty bike.
There’s no doubt about it: the bike is right at home here!
CAR
PARKING
Dunkirk has around 7,000 parking spaces near businesses and services. A short walk and you can even park your car for free. If you don’t feel like walking, you can always hop on a bus to the city centre. Don’t forget the Park and Ride (P+R) located in Môle 1 and the Tribut stadium.
In Bergues, you can park your car at the train station and Gambetta car parks for free.
Generally, town and village centres in the region offer at least 20 minutes’ free parking while you do some shopping. Practical.
CAR SHARING
- Aire de Petite-Synthe (easily accessible by bus) near the A16 motorway access.
