A historical sector of the territory on the way to decarbonization
The cement sector is historically present in the Dunkirk basin, in particular thanks to:
the presence of the Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque which greatly facilitates production logistics.
the establishment of metallurgical and steel industries which produce slags which are used in the composition of cement.
By nature, cement is a material with very high carbon intensity, so it is a real challenge for producers to take up the challenge of decarbonizing the sector. Within the 1st CO2 and H2 Hub in France, synergies are emerging in order to provide solutions to this challenge.
