Major energy producers

There are major energy companies in Dunkirk who have production sites allowing reliable access to utilities and different energy sources.

Thanks to a supply and production of diversified energies, including a growing share of renewable energies, the territory is able to meet the energy demand of local industrialists and new establishments.

The main production sites are:

  • the Gravelines nuclear power plant,
  • the LNG terminal,
  • the DK6 combined cycle power plant which recovers blast furnace gases…

Discover opposite the testimony of Ms. Champion, Commercial Director at RTE in Lille, who tells us about the network operator’s investments to secure electricity supplies.

A European-scale energy platform, the Dunkirk area has been able to diversify its production sources: LNG, biogas, nuclear, solar or soon wind-generated electricity, the quantity and diversity of the energies produced locally make Dunkirk a major energy centre. By modifying the filters using the sliders located at the top of the application, do not hesitate to specify your request by type of network or energy sought. You will thus know which networks will serve your future location.

New and Renewable Energy production sites

The Dunkirk region hosts multiple energy production or exchange installations (electricity, biofuels, hydrogen, LNG, methane, BioNGV, heat, refrigerators, steam, etc.).

The agglomeration also offers a growing share of ENR and has an electricity mix that emits little CO2.

  • 29.8 TWh of low-carbon energy were produced in 2021 by the Gravelines nuclear power plant, the first nuclear power plant in Western Europe with an installed capacity of 5,400 MW.
  • 2: the CNPE site is a candidate to accommodate 2 EPR2s for an additional power of 3,340 MW.
600 MW, the capacity of the wind farm projected off the coast of Dunkirk in 2027.
  • 40 MW, the production capacity of photovoltaic power plants developed by 2023 in the port areas of Dunkirk.
  • No. 1: Dunkirk is also home to TotalEnergies’ most powerful French battery electricity storage site. Located in the Establishment of Flanders and with a power of 61 MW, it will ensure the stability of the electricity network between consumption and production.
