CO2 and H2 Hub in France
A PLUG & PLAY TERRITORY
The territory has many assets to its name:
- Diversified sources of energy including a growing portion of renewable energies.
- A reliable and secure supply giving it the capacity to meet the energy demands of local manufacturers now and in the future with many new facilities to come.
- A pioneering Industrial and Territorial Ecology role that encourages companies to improve their energy efficiency and recover their coproducts.
- The introduction of France’s first CO2 and H2 hub which will strengthen Dunkirk’s position as the home of low-carbon energy and as an attractive place to do business.
Are you working on an industrial project? Would you like to decarbonise your activities and processes? Then why not choose Dunkirk?
A VARIETY OF LOW CARBON ENERGY SOURCES
The most important nuclear power plant in Europe.
Gravelines nuclear power plant produced 32.6 TWh of low carbon electricity in 2020, the equivalent of the needs of 7 million homes in France.
The roll-out of green hydrogen
Necessary for the decarbonisation of industrial processes, Dunkirk is working to set up a green hydrogen hub producing 150 KT of H2 per year. H2V59 and Shymed are part of the ongoing projects.
A solar power plant
Dunkirk Port will install the first solar power plant with a 40 MW capacity.
An offshore wind farm
The future offshore wind farm planned off the coast of Dunkirk will offer a 600 MW capacity by 2027.
A RELIABLE, UNINTERRUPTED NETWORK
Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE), the operator of the French electricity transmission network, manages electricity flows and the balance between production and consumption in France.
One of France’s major strengths is the quality of its electricity supply, associated with great stability:
- 9% – this is the percentage of power supply continuity on the RTE network. This means that network outages are extremely rare.
- RTE is one of the few European electricity transmission network operators to make a contractual commitment to the quality of the power supply at all times and the continuity of its customers’ electricity supply.
More than 4,000 of RTE’s employees are ready to tackle breakdowns and make repairs 24/7.
Very significant investments are expected to be made by RTE in the Hauts-de-France and Dunkirk areas to support their customers with their projects, particularly decarbonisation ones.
- Almost 500 million euros between 2023 and 2025.
Discover the testimony of Ms. Champion, Commercial Director at RTE in Lille, who tells us about the network operator’s investments to secure electricity supplies.
