Steven Coppens, Project Manager at INDAVER
“INDAVER is a European group, founded in the late 1980s in the Port of Antwerp and specialising in the management of industrial and household waste. We have several large treatment facilities where we convert industrial residues into energy or reusable materials. We are currently building a new unit for the treatment of chlorinated production residues, to be called “IndaChlor”. Situated at Loon-Plage, within the industrial area of the Port of Dunkirk, this new site represents an investment of 40 million Euros and should lead to the creation of 20 direct jobs in 2019. Our ambition is to process 40,000 tonnes of residues there a year. We chose Dunkirk because the site matched our needs perfectly and meant that we could work in synergy with the neighbouring factories of Ecophos and Ryssen Alcools for the recovery of hydrochloric acid and energy respectively. We also appreciate Dunkirk’s industrial port area which has excellent services. This location also means we will be close to our suppliers, the producers of recyclable residues (in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Ireland and England), and we know that we can find skilled labour here. I want to thank Dunkerque Promotion which has been a brilliant facilitator, especially during the project’s development phase. With the agency’s knowledge of the area we were able to obtain reliable data, very quickly, on practicalities in the region (costs of energy, labour, etc) and found it easy to make contact with local decision-makers. And thanks to Dunkerque Promotion, we were very soon able to meet the different service providers we needed to finalise the project. From our first contacts with Dunkerque Promotion’s project manager we were made to feel welcome, and that is particularly important when you are a foreign company.”
