Winner of the ZIBaC call for projects

The major industrial-port areas of Le Havre, Marseilles and Dunkirk have historically emitted high levels of CO2. Finding solutions to decarbonise these areas in order to achieve the targets of -30% emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050 is essential if we want to meet our climate objectives: Dunkirk is key to the decarbonisation of industry!

Patrice Vergriete, President of the Greater Dunkirk Urban Council, believes that the urban area needs to go from being the “leader emitter of CO2” to the “leading provider of solutions” and assert itself as a pioneer of the decarbonised industry of the future.

Dunkirk wins the first ever “Low Carbon Industrial Areas (ZIBaC)” call for projects.  Commissioned by the Ministry of Industry through the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME), the ZIBaC scheme will facilitate engineering and feasibility studies relating to the reduction of carbon emissions, with a budget of 27.2 million euros, of which ADEME will provide up to 50% as a subsidy, or 13.6 million euros.

BUILDING THE FIRST CO2 HUB IN FRANCE

The creation of the Dunkirk CO2 HUB involves creating the necessary infrastructure:

  1. To collect and carry CO2 via pipes
  2. For its storage in a buffer zone
  3. For its loading onto a boat
  4. And finally for its permanent storage in the North Sea in places that can be accessed from the Port of Dunkirk

The deployment of the CO2 HUB will open up a whole host of opportunities for businesses.
