International investment trophies
Organised every three years by the regional economic promotion agency Nord France Invest, the “International Investment Trophies” were designed to reward international companies based in the Nord-Pas de Calais for their outstanding investments. On 9 June 2015 five companies were honoured, including two based in the Dunkirk area: EcoPhos received the prize for responsible investment, and Kubota the prize for industrial investment.
EcoPhos, which will set up its new production facility in Mardyck, produces phosphate from poor-quality rocks, so reducing environmental impact in mining sites and contributing to the preservation of natural phosphate reserves. Kubota, a European leader with mini-shovels, compact tractors and industrial diesel engines of less than 50 CV, decided in 2013 to set up a tractor assembly plant at Bierne. This means an investment of more than 40 million Euros and 140 jobs by 2017.
