A TERRITORY LOOKING OUT FOR THE WELLBEING OF ITS INHABITANTS

  • The territory of Dunkirk has every single medical service its residents might need. The hospital centre is located right in the city centre, which is a real plus for a major urban area. Since 2018, Dunkirk hospital centre (CHD) has also been home to a brand new maternity department.
  • There are two practices – equipped with comprehensive technical facilities and specialists in the different areas of ophthalmology including eye surgery – at the Flandre Clinic and the Grande-Synthe Polyclinic. You can make an appointment and be seen to within a few weeks.
  • The territory boasts several clinics in Dunkirk, Coudekerque-Branche and Grande-Synthe. There are also medical and health centres dotted all around the area, bringing together GPs, medical practitioners and even nurses.
  • Inhabitants who need rehabilitation treatment are seen to at Zuydcoote maritime hospital.
  • The city of Jean Bart also has an online practice called Cubemed which provides telemedicine consultations.

LILLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL (CHRU) JUST 45 MINS FROM THE COAST

Ranked among the top 3 hospitals in France (according to the annual survey published by Le Point newspaper), Dunkirk is a little under an hour from Lille University Hospital (CHRU) and brings together some of the country’s leading specialists.

It is divided into 16 medical departments across 14 specialist hospitals including:

  • Jeanne de Flandre children’s hospital and maternity department
  • The Institut Cœur Poumon which deals with cardiovascular diseases
  • The Centre Oscar Lambret, which is at the cutting edge of cancer and oncology research
  • SOS Mains specialising in hand surgery

Along with Parc Eurasanté and the university, it comprises one of Europe’s largest health campuses.

If you have a medical emergency, you can contact the emergency medical services (SAMU) on 15, but you can also go to:

  • The CHD 24/7 emergency service – Reception: +33 (0)3 28 28 56 11 (daytime)
  • Dunkirk’s on call medical centre, open Monday to Friday from 6pm to midnight, Saturdays from 4pm to midnight, Sundays and bank holidays from 9am to 1pm and 4pm to midnight, for an urgent consultation that does not require a visit to A & E (address: CHD – 130 Avenue Louis Herbeaux – +33 (0)3 61 30 01 73)
  • SOS Médecins St Pol sur Mer: you must call ahead to make an appointment on +33 (0)8 26 46 20 07. Open 24/7.
  • The out-of-hours doctor who will be able to advise you and refer you to another service if necessary: 116 117
